Apple Time!

So up here in northwest Iowa, we were lucky enough not only to be able to pick apples, but also that my mother and father in-law have an apple orchard that our entire extended family can use. Its quite a nice little orchard. The apples weren't quite at their best yet, but it was fun nonetheless. I also was able to take some pictures of the orchard and pasture. I especially loved the clouds in the first picture I posted.

Finally starting my journey.

Hi, my name is Ben, and I currently live in Sioux City Iowa, and have lived on the Great Plains my entire life, as I was born and raised in rural eastern Nebraska. As I've said in my title, I'm finally starting my journey. Not only am I starting my blogging journey, which has been something I've put off for years, but also trying to start my journey to recovery.

See, the above picture, which I took while taking my kayak on its maiden voyage at Hillview Lake near Hinton IA, is one of the first times I was able to actually do something more outdoorsy this summer as on the first day of June I broke my ankle in a bicycle accident and I finally was able to be full weight bearing. I also finally was able to take my kayak out, which I bought last year hoping to explore some of the lakes and rivers in Siouxland (the area around Sioux City, for those who don't know) but I didn't, and I said I'd do it this summer. Well, I didn't until Labor Day. However I still got to go out and begin another journey, even if it was just around a small lake.

I guess my hope for this blog is to keep exploring some of the interesting things around Siouxland, whether its natural wonders, or cool abandoned stuff I find, or anything else I find interesting. I also love studying the history, geography and culture of places, and I hope this blog can do some justice for places in my area, and the Great Plains in general.

Also, I have more pictures from my short canoe trip at Hillview Lake
